The food logistics industry has been using refrigerated trucks and other solutions with cold storage for a long time. But the integration of logistics from the stage of product collection to sale into a single chain of continuous cold chain (ColdChain) became possible not so long ago due to large-scale digitalization and, in particular, the introduction of IIoT (industrial Internet of Things) technologies.

In a competitive environment, companies struggle for efficiency, which translates into the ability to reduce fixed operating costs. Without a monitoring system, deviation from the required conditions at any stage of the cold chain will inevitably lead to damage to the product, which can be either explicitly expressed as losses resulting from product disposal, or indirectly in the form of a damaged reputation or reduced marginality for selling goods at a markdown for lower quality. Here is an example of the delivery of frozen products, if deviations from the permissible limits of storage conditions were detected during transportation, then it is possible to change the route and send the products to the processing center or to discount stores, thereby reducing the cost of intermediate storage. Similarly, under certain storage conditions in premium quality stores, it is possible to redistribute products through alternative distribution channels.
